In a recent conversation, a story was told of World War II in France. The French had bolstered up their borders to keep Germany out. Unfortunately, they did not consider their border with Belgium a threat. The Germans saw that opportunity and attacked through Belgium.
This story can be applied to many different areas of life. In teaching, educators often have to find ways to get around the walls our students present. Going through Belgium is a daily challenge. Some walls can be crumbled when their owners do not see the need for them anymore.
Opportunity is there even when it seems impossible.

I agree Diane. I never thought of 'storming the borders' but it does make sense. I find this slightly aggressive position works better towards the end of the year when my students have one foot out of the door, and they don't see a reason to continue working until they actually are out of school.
ReplyDeleteResponse: Very true. we need to be watchful on all sides, I think that’s why I often think that team teaching is such a good idea. With more eyes on the students, their needs can be better identified... Some walls are built up from the influence of certain parts of society that don’t necessarily have our students’ best interests in mind. We must teach our students to be critical thinkers.
